Monday

Well, Allen and the guys did a WONDERFUL job Saturday. I'm sure the other ladies in attendance felt as special as I did! Way to go, honey!

The Women's Ministry Group got together for our last meeting yesterday before the retreat. We went over KP duties, room and ride assignments, and finalized the shopping list. Well, we had a rookie in our midst - new to the WMG and the retreat - who was shocked at how much food we were talking about - and that's just the meal/snack food - it didn't include the chocolate! Come on - it's a ladies retreat - hot tubs and chocolate - WOOHOO! But it was amusing to see her reaction! Just wait till you get there, Bridget!

So, looks like things are coming together. Unfortunately, Satan has stepped up his attack. He's trying to lull me by whispering to me that he's not the one doing this stuff - it's just a big old coincidence - but I'm not buying it! Now, the attack is coming in a very weak and touchy area for Allen and me. I'm trying to stand strong, and encouraging him to do the same.

...can't wait for Wednesday...

Friday

I'm off work today!! Huzzah! A day of - well, cleaning and laundry and helping my husband get ready for tomorrow's banquet - but I'm off work!

So - everyone in for March 1st? I'm looking forward to joining with you all in prayer...

Wednesday

Last night I was able to relax somewhat. I hung out with my kids, I watched AI and the Olympics, I cross stitched, I read my Bible - pretty good night overall.

But something has been bothering me. I talked to Beaner yesterday afternoon because I hadn't seen her in Blogville and she hadn't answered my email. Everything is okay, but there's something whacko with their computer. She told me about another friend who is ill and has sick kids. And then there's HW, who has some struggles of her own. And on it goes... It struck me that it seems that Satan is trying to go after nearly everyone in our little circle of friends. I'm not trying to be egotistical - "oh, it's all about Chris and HER life and all the good things SHE's trying to do" - but I've become very aware of how far the enemy's claws are reaching. But like HW said, I'm not going to let myself sap the joy out of my day by focusing on what he's doing. Instead I will rejoice that I've been found worthy and enough of a threat.

Lord, thank You for everything You are doing in my life. Father, I pray for my friends and family member who are feeling Satan's evil touches. I pray Jesus' blood covering over all of us, and that Your angels would camp around us. Give us peace and joy. Amen.

Miss me?

(I'll just pretend you answered in the enthusiastic affirmative and move on...lol!)

Well, I think Allen and I came to a consensus last evening. We are under attack. The enemy has us in his sights and is trying his best to drive a big ol' wedge into our family. Between the health/physical issues, the whole job thing, the retreat, the kiddos {"loving"} each other - oh yeah - he's after us!

So, last night, we claimed our family. We prayed a covering over us, a hedge around us. We realize Satan is still out there, waiting, but I think that since we have recognized this as an all-out assault that we will make it through.

As a matter of fact, I've been feeling a sense of joy because what I'm doing has evidently gotten Satan's attention, so I must be doing something right! I'm feeling more confident about the retreat and more determined than ever to share what God's placed on my heart.

..of course, more prayer warriors joining the fray is ALWAYS welcome...:)

Sorry I said anything

Wednesday

Well, like I said yesterday and this morning - I'm not comfortable with the idea of this job at all. I'm in need of that divine 2x4 to hit me in the head and spin me around to the right path. I'm wondering if this wasn't a ploy by Satan to keep me from focusing on the retreat or something. I wouldn't put it past him. I do definitely want to leave my current position, but this particular job doesn't feel right. I don't know. Prayers would be appreciated...

...and I'll do my, um, best? like, not to do this, you know? at the retreat? okay? LOL!

PS - What the heck has happened to my profile and Spike that they're waaaaaay down at the bottom?!

EEP!!

Okay, yeah, uh, so, I, um, like, got this call today? about, um, interviewing for, like, a new job? and uh, yeah, and I'm like, totally freakin' out, um, 'cuz I don't, like, know, like, a good deal of like, the stuff she, uh, wants me to know?, 'cuz I'm behind, like, the times and all? you know, and um, so, like I have to like, crash course this stuff? like, before I call her back to like, set up, like, an interview? and like, all this is, um, happening? like, when I'm tryin' to focus, like, on the retreat?

...ack...

Tuesday

These are fun...I've been seeing them on quite a few blogs recently...

A Lesson Learned

Friday evening, I shared what I'm going to teach at the ladies retreat with my husband. I'm sharing from the Eldridge's book Captivating. I asked for his honest input and opinion, and my husband is nothing if not honest. He told me he felt that the flow was good, and the information was great, but there was no heart behind what I was saying. There was no conviction. Ouch! Unfortunately, he was absolutely right. I fell in love with this book, and it has continued to be on my heart since I got it last year. The first time I read it, I was astounded - it was like the authors were inside my head! But. There's head knowledge and there's heart knowledge. Allen asked if I don't believe it, how can I teach it? And he's right.

So, I shared that with a friend at church yesterday. I asked for her prayers that I would believe and be convinced and passionate about what I felt God was leading me to teach - that I would truly hear God and the words He wanted me to say, and she assured me that she would. (And I know that others have said they are praying for me as well, which I greatly appreciate - and NEED!) During the sermon yesterday, I will admit I was irritated and distracted and I kind of tuned out. My friend stopped me after church with a note that said "Did you hear it? You got your "word." Deut 30:14 'But the word is very near you, Chris, in your mouth and in your heart, Chris...' You asked - HE answered quickly!!" I teared up when she read it to me, and I've kept the note close as a reminder ever since. I needed to hear that, but even more, I need to kick Satan out - my irritation gave him a foothold, and I missed what God was trying to tell me. I'm so grateful for my friend's attention!

I hope you have a friend like that!

Thoisday

So we were total slugs last night - sat around and watched American Idol (yeah, I know) and the Grammys (yeah, I know again) - nothing like a good old fashioned evening of mindless entertainment! No stitching, no working on retreat stuff (although in my defense, I'm nearly done...), no dishes, no laundry - NOTHING! However, of course, we'll be making up for it tonight...

Speaking of the Grammys - did anyone else watch? Did anyone see the tribute to Sly and the Family Stone? Um...was that supposed to go like that? And well, about the hair...oh, never mind...

Been thoroughly enjoying the TobyMac CD this week. One song in particular has really struck a chord with me (no pun intended). The lyrics:

I've got to go, I'm 'bout to do a show
Can't take this stress, wanna give You my best, Lord
I can't sing with this hangin' over me
But the show must go on, Lord, set me free
Yeah, that's kinda how I've been feeling - constantly running or doing or whatever. But I still sometimes feel like I'm faking it. Not really feeling like I can perform again, but the show must go on.
Lord, set me free.

Tuesday

Sorry I've been kinda quiet. I've been lurking more than commenting or writing. There was some bad news in the world of stitching blogs this week. A young woman (late 20's) died suddenly this past Friday. No one has said what has happened. I can't imagine what her husband and family are going through. I know her family would appreciate any prayers you could send their way. Thanks.

Monday

Well, I got DS1 to admit that I'm cool. Right before bed Friday night, he told me that it was pretty cool that I picked him up from school with TobyMac blaring (well, as much as my little car can blare anything - LOL)

Allen started replacing the tub surround this weekend - he's so handy! Hopefully only a few more days until we can use the "good" bathroom again! Yay, honey!

There are four people that are in my office most of the time, and in pretty close proximity to one another. Today, the three ladies (me, friend boss, and the new gal) were talking about churches and spiritual matters before the other guy came in. It was very encouraging! Not even so much what was discussed, but the fact that the conversation even occurred. I don't think it would have happened even a few months ago. Hooray!

Friday, February 03, 2006

...ummm...

Okay - maybe I'm NOT so high on the cool moms scale. Next time I'm striving for coolishiosityness, thumpin' a rockin' and happenin' band (when yer cool, you tend to leave the final 'g' off of words, BTW), perhaps I should plan my attire a bit better. It's hard to be a rockin' (see?) mom while wearing a glittery sweatshirt with penguins and snowflakes on it...note to self...

It's Official

Yep - got the final notification last night - I AM OLD. And where did this joyous news reach me, you ask? In the middle of a TobyMac set at WinterJam 2006. Yup. I was there. Feeling very fuddy-duddy-ish. Thinking that I would probably enjoy the music more if I could understand the words. *sigh* But, on the up side, the kids had a ball! I think the highlight for them both was the Sphere of Fear motorcycle demo and the Newboys spinning drum platform. I did happen to see some folks who at least LOOKED older than I am, but that was small consolation - I just didn't feel like jumping and moshing last night - headache and all, you understand. Otherwise...(or not)

It really was an awesome show, though, and if the jam is anywhere near you, I HIGHLY recommend you find the time to attend! Seven acts for $10 - can't beat it!

Bailed

Thanks for the well wishes - my back is feeling a bit better today.

I had every intention of working on retreat stuff last night, but instead we faced the damage, and had our taxes done. So tonight, after PT practice, it's back at it! I guess my biggest problem is going to be condensing the book into a single class and a short blurb before small group/individual studies. There's A LOT in this book that I really am feeling led to cover, while at the same time, I'm going through the process for myself again. I still have time, but I'm fighting the imp named Overwhelmed and his companion Time Crunch.

I think a big part of my problem last night was wanting to work on the small group sheets before I was finished with the class - cart before horse time. Maybe that's why I was almost eager to get the taxes done! LOL!

I really appreciate all the encouragement I've received from sisters about doing this class, and the prayer covering, not to mention the practical support. Thanks, gals!

Monday, Monday

I took nearly the entire weekend off from crafting, from working on the class, from thinking! It was great! But it's Monday again, and I need to get started on everything again. Saturday, Allen worked, and DS1 was working hard painting in the youth room at church. DS2 and I just hung out. DS2 got free tickets to our local university's basketball game Saturday, so after we picked up DS1, we headed to the game. I am not proud to admit that although I have a degree from the school, I had never attended a basketball game. (Or knew all the words to the school song, but that's another story!) We had a good time, even though we were in the nosebleed section next to the opposing team's fans. (Encouraged the kiddos not to gripe because the tickets were free after all!) It rained all day Saturday, too, which was nice. Just kinda sprinkled off and on. Until the game was over. And we were parked a couple of blocks away. So, we just counted our blessings and had a good time walking to the car. Went home to showers and hot chocolate to warm up! Hopefully, we'll be able to go to another game and Allen will be able to attend with us!

Sunday was pretty uneventful. My back started hurting at church, so all I wanted to do was lay down with a heating pad! Allen had a bad headache, so it wasn't such a great afternoon. Can't win 'em all, huh?

Just be glad you're not THIS guy... (Thanks CNN & AP)

CAMBRIDGE, England (AP) -- A museum visitor shattered three Qing dynasty Chinese vases when he tripped on his shoelace, stumbled down a stairway and brought the vases crashing to the floor, officials said Monday.

The three vases, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, had been donated to The Fitzwilliam Museum in the university city of Cambridge in 1948, and were among its best-known artifacts. They had been sitting proudly on the window sill beside the staircase for 40 years.

"It was a most unfortunate and regrettable accident, but we are glad that the visitor involved was able to leave the museum unharmed," said Duncan Robinson, the Fitzwilliam's director.
The museum declined to identify the man who had tripped on a loose shoelace Wednesday.
Asked about the porcelain vases, Margaret Greeves, the museum's assistant director, said: "They are in very, very small pieces, but we are determined to put them back together."

The museum declined to say what the vases were worth.

Shameless plagiarism - again

Okay - this could be fun! If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often (or ever, for that matter), please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL MEMORY OF YOU AND ME. It can be anything you want--good or bad--BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.

Ahhh...Wednesday

Well, I've gotten the official okie-dokie from my aunt on the colors I chose for the pin guards, so I'm back to stitching. She and my grandfather came over last night for a quick visit.

I'm still plugging away at the women's retreat lesson. I haven't had as much time to work on it over the last couple of days, but I'm planning on working on it pretty hard the rest of this week. I'm really getting excited about it!

Busy at work, busy at home, nothing new or exciting, nothing deep and meaningful. (Oddly enought - happy that the things I dream at night WON'T come true - trust me!) Just, well, here, thank God.

Lord, please shine through me today.

Okay - confession time - I'm NOT happy today; I'm NOT feeling well; I'm NOT sleeping well; I'm NOT in a good mood as much as I may try to play it off; I'm NOT wanting to be here - or anywhere for that matter. There. *sigh* Things are starting to weigh on me, and today is not a good coping day. Sorry. Hopefully, my funk will dissipate and I'll be better tomorrow...

Happy Monday

...in spite of the fact that researchers have determined that this is supposed to be one of the worst days for people...and how exactly would one go about coming to THAT conclusion?

My cold seems to be loosening it's infernal hold on me - hooray! Enough so that I was even able to sing with the PT yesterday. But, I have to admit, I went home after our women's ministry group meeting and put on my flannel jammies - I WAS DONE. Completely worn out. But I have had no pity-Coke today - only water, thankyouverymuch! Just working my widdle finger to da bone.

Our aforementioned meeting went well, I thought. We had lots of input and some really good ideas for the next couple of months, and beyond. We even started planning for the women's retreat in March. Hopefully, it will be good...

...put on a happy face...

Sorry I'm late posting today - I wasn't going to blog today at all - heavy medication and typing can be a bad combo, after all - but I had something really nice happen and wanted to share...

Allen just had roses delivered to me at work and they're GORGEOUS!!! Not sure what the occasion is, 'ceptin' that he loves me - what better reason?! Sure cheered me up!

Happy weekend!

Thursday

...more of the same...weather forecast - today in the 50's, tomorrow up to 4" of snow...still congested...still drugged, although more heavily today...more Coke this morning...blech

Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Blech

That pretty much sums up how I'm feeling today. Here's a rundown...just for fun! Head - congested and achy. Nose - alternately running or stuffed. Various muscles - sore. Brain - NOT working. Overall condition - blech. (See? It's unanimous!) This all hit me in the space of about fifteen minutes last night. I was sitting on the couch, beading the first pg and watching American Idol (heheh) when all of a sudden I felt like I could just curl up in a ball and sleep for a week. But life goes on, so...here I am at work...ever the martyr, right? LOL!

I've indulged in a guilty pleasure this morning because I don't feel great - Coke. Yes. In the morning. First thing. Nothing like it! People ask me why I drink soda instead of coffee, and my response is that I prefer my caffeine carbonated. I've done really well in weaning myself off of soda (especially caffeinated ones) for a long time now, but I just wanted one today, and I was too weak to say no to myself. (I think I need a nap already!)

Have a good day, Blogville!

Greatest Hits

Over the last couple of years, I have been collecting greatest hits and compilation CDs. You know, Greatest Hits of the '70s, 1 by the Beatles, etc. I was recently listening to my new U2 CD (1980-2000) and I started wondering what I was missing by only getting the "greatest hits." I mean, yeah, I'm hearing the big hits - the chart toppers, the ones everyone likes or liked - but what gems are hidden deep in the original projects? What 'B' sides am I missing that may eventually have become one of my all-time favorites? Am I cheating myself? Am I cheating the artist?

Then God used his divine 2x4: what are you missing about Me by only doing the popular things? Reading the verses everyone already knows - the ones everyone likes - the ones that are easy to 'get' or get hold of - the ones that bring that sense of nostalgia and charm because of their familiarity. What gems of truth am I missing in one of smaller or less 'popular' books or chapters? What would happen if I went against the stream and danced to a different tune than the popular ones that everyone is listening to?

Am I cheating myself? Am I cheating the Artist?

Excuse me - you're stepping on my toe...

An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman hit the roof - and the horn - screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind you rcar while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' licenseplate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

(...shamlessly stolen - um - BORROWED from another blog...Happy Plagiarism for Fun & Profit Week!)

New friend

Meet Spike -->
(I didn't name him Wrigley 'cuz I couldn't do red and white spots!) Feel free to give him a treat - he LOVES them! Hold it over his head, and he'll jump for it.

Just want to be a full service blog and offer some entertainment for when y'all get tired of my whining, ranting, complaining, etc (or at least when I lapse into too many blogs about cross-stitch, Christmas or the kiddos...LOL!)

"Sisterchicks"

You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm32:7

I've recently enjoyed a couple of the Sisterchicks novels. (Great light reading - definitely recommend them!) The premise of the series is that different sets of friends go off on adventures together and deepen their friendship and have a blast! A sisterchick is "a friend who shared the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you're being a brat." My favorite so far is Sisterchicks Do the Hula in which two college friends reconnect after a number of years and go on that long-planned Hawai'ian vacation. The scripture quoted above is featured heavily in the book. However, Robin Jones Gunn, the author, uses Peterson's The Message as her source of scripture.

God's my island hideaway,
keeps danger far from the shore,
throws garlands of hosannas around my neck.

Psalm 32:7 The Message

This particular verse has really spoken to me since I started the book. I just love the imagery. To think of God as a hideaway is exciting to me. (Although I must admit that often I don't long to run away to God as much as I would to an actual island.) I especially love this part: "throws garlands of hosannas around my neck." He's greeting me, showering me with love, is excited to see me, to praise me, to enjoy me, to make how He feels about me obvious to everyone. Wow. Makes me wonder how often I want to do that for Him.

This made me giggle today

I saw this on another site and thought that it was just too funny not to share.....
Tell me why...
Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know that the batteries are getting
weak?
Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough?
Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars but check when you say the paint is wet?
Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle?
Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?
Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?
Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest but duck when you throw a revolver at him?Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
Whose idea was it to put an 's' in the word 'lisp'?
If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?
Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use, the bubbles are always white?
Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?
Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum cleaner one more chance?
Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end you first try?
How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?
Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?
In winter, why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?
Why do you never hear father-in-law jokes?

Tell me this week will get better...

Nothing like waking five minutes before you're supposed to be at work, eh? Grrrr...

Friday evening we watched the penguins march. Meh. It was okay. I much prefer the Blue Planet series that came out a few years ago. They're reshowing it right now on the National Geographic channel, or something like that. The best part about it was sharing time with the fam.

So. This weekend was pretty good. Saturday, Allen worked, so I straightened up the house, did laundry, all the fun stuff, and then spent the rest of the time stitching PG#1. Went pretty well. But ask me again when I'm on PG #18...

The boys spent Saturday night at a friend's house, so it was just me in complete control of the remote...ahhhh...

Sunday we went to church, and then watched football. And evidently went to bed way too late (see the opening sentence.)

So...ever in a tearing hurry again - gotta get something done today at work...

Friday, January 06, 2006

My turn for a Grrrr

But first the good stuff...last night, Allen gave me a wonderful gift - a night off! I didn't have to cook (not that I usually do, but...), I didn't have to do laundry, I didn't have to do dishes - nothing! So relaxing...he's so good to me! I am blessed and thankful just 'cuz he's around! Thanks, babe!

We watched a couple of movies and I cross stitched. I finished the left wing, her collar, started her bodice and fleshed out the angel's face (over one - on 28 ct - ugh!) And I was doing so well - making progress on her gown - when I realized that I was using the wrong color - hence the grrrr. So I frogged. Alot. *sigh*

DH got called in for overtime today - short list, but it means a little extra on the next check and that he'll be home later - I like short list call-ins. Besides, we have a family date to watch March of the Penguins tonight.

I have a really bad case of Friday-itis today. I do not want to work. At. All. Just wanna sit and surf...however, the boss does not agree, so back to the grindstone...Have a great weekend everyone!

Thursday

Well, things are looking up, anyway. Rough couple of days, but thanks for the prayers...

Not a whole lot to say right now. I'm kinda zapped - worn out, you know? But I have to say that reading Allen's blog today did a lot toward lifting my spirit - thanks honey! And did everyone check out that new background pic on his blog? Woowee - I am one lucky woman!

Happy New? Year

So this is 2006, huh? Doesn't really look that different to me. Everyone is making lists (me included) of things they remember from 2005, things to change in 2006, etc. I keep hearing how January is like a fresh start - a new page - a clean slate. But this year, for some reason, I'm just not feeling it. It looks the same, it feels the same. And to be honest, so far I'm not impressed. I do have things I want to change in my life this year (I'll not call them "resolutions") but why does change only seem to happen in January? Why can't I change my behaviour or goals or whatever in June or September? Maybe I've caught Terri's funk...I'm pretty certain this headache is to blame for a lot of my current mood...

Dec 29

...and once again, I just don't feel like conversing with anyone here in the office today. I can't help but think that this is just SO wrong of me, and that as a christian, I should be making the most of every opportunity, but I just don't want to get into these long, drawn-out gabfests that occur around here. The problem is, this week there's only three of us in the office, so my silence is pretty noticeable. I'm really looking forward to a half day tomorrow - going to be too busy to chatter...

*Stitchspeak Warning* Hit Hobby Lobby last night, and kitted out the pin guards. Got some evenweave, and I think I did alright on the color conversion. I even indulged in some DMC light effects floss - lovely! I compared the floss I had from the wolf kit (which are not DMC - ugh) and converted them as closely as I could to DMC, so I think I might be ready to start. And I'd really like to. But I have two WIP's that need to be finished first. DH has been very patient about his sax player, and well, Ivy's piece should go quickly after I frog what's already been done on the "Y" in her name. I spaced the letters evenly, but I guess they should have been spaced proportionately. I think these three projects will take up all of my rotation for the next year. I have until spring of 2007 to do the pin guards, but I need to get them done ASAP so she can do the finishing. In other stitching news, I did my first no-sew cube for Christmas! I used jingle bells for the feet and faux holly sprigs for the embellishment on the top, and I think it came together really well. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post pictures.

Back to regular stuff...We're having guests over tomorrow night for dinner, but haven't decided what to serve yet. I think we're doing Mexican. We're going to watch The Polar Express and read the book as well. I'm really looking forward to it! I have to clean tonight, and make my homemade caramel corn - yum. Tomorrow afternoon we're having a family portrait done - gasp! The last time we had an entire family picture professionally done was when DS2 was a few weeks old. Yeah. It's been a while.

Well, I guess I should at least pretend I'm working, huh?

Oh - and for your daily sugar-sweet rush: http://cuteoverload.com

Wednesday - for lack of a more clever title

Ever have a day when you just don't wanna talk? Nothing's really wrong, I just don't wanna talk to anyone here in the office. I'm not upset, not angry, nothing like that - just want some peace and quiet while I do my job. Does that make me a bad person?

One of the gifts DH got me for Christmas is a gift card to a local hobby and craft store. He insisted that I go there tonight and spend it. What. A. Guy!! Can't wait! I've spent the time that the internet was down here (nice - and on a day when the boss is gone! Cutting into prime surfing time...) organizing my priorities and stuff...
__________________________________________________

I also received on of The Swift's CDs for Christmas, and I've been playing the song "I Need You" over and over...there are just times when I absolutely feel that way.

...and to all a good night...

Hey, Blogville! How was yer Christmas?! Ours was purty darn good! We were up (for the day, at least) before the kiddos, and had a blast opening our gifts...I think the kiddos had a nice Christmas. It was so nice to be able to spend on other people this year. It doesn't always work out that way, but I love it when it does. I think DH had a good Christmas, too, and that goes without saying for me! I think my favorite thing, though, was hearing how much DH enjoyed church Sunday morning.

DS1 and I had a running conversation as to why we were going to church on Christmas. He just did not want to go. We talked about it frequently over the past week. Finally, Sunday afternoon he came to me and said he understood why we went. When I asked him to tell me why, he said it was so we could spend time with friends and our church family, and hear about God's gift to us. (YEEESSSS! Learning has occurred!!)

And I'd like to send a big ol' shoutout to Donna and Terri for their lovely Christmas cards - made me all teary-eyed! Thanks, gals!

Now I'm back at work. And to tell you the truth, I'm getting kinda tired of hearing about everyone else's Christmas - who spent what on whom, who got cheated, who got spoiled. Ugh. Back to some warped form of "real life."

Merry Christmas, Blogville!

It's almost here!!! Just a few more things to get and wrap and I'll be good to go! DH and I "wrapped" presents last night. One of our traditions - pick a night just before Christmas, make the kiddos go hide in their rooms and we attempt to wrap gifts. Why, oh why and manufacturers put everything in geometric boxes?!?!

Anyway, I hope you and your have a wonderful Christmas!

...now if I could just get that SONG outta my head...Weee want da funk; gotta have dat funk...

C-5 days and counting...

(Just remember - I warned you a loooooong time ago that Sunday was a-comin')

*Warning* Stitchspeak ahead...

One of the things my aunt and I discussed Sunday were her pinguards. She has asked me to do Just Nan's Celeste, but to do a color conversion to green, and add a wolf figure next to her. (Her mascot and her assistant's mascot incorporated into one design.) All within a space less than 6 inches high and maybe 5 inches wide. Twenty times. Yes, T-W-E-N-T-Y times. Ack! I'm a bit overwhelmed, to be honest. And I am going to have to stitch over two - which I really dislike - I'm easily confused - with the wolf, and the angel's face and hands done over one. *sigh* And as far as I can tell, I'm doing all of the guards. I helped her stitch pinguards a number of years ago, but she spread them out amongst a few other stitchers as well as me, so I ended up doing five or six. But twenty! Eeep! I have to have them done before June 2007 - which sounds like an awfully long time to some, but trust me - cross stitch is not exactly a speedy endeavor! So, I guess, please pray for my sanity, my wrist, and my family!

Today we're doing our Christmas luncheon here at work. We decided that A) we didn't want to go out in the evening sometime, and B) didn't want to deal with MB - so we're doing lunch here and getting the difference as a cash bonus - scree! Of course, it's already accounted for - Merry Christmas, right? Ahh, nothing says Christmas like...Italian food? Whatever! We're cool with that!

Whoops - gotta run! Happy Tuesday!

Weekend recap

Happy Monday...

Not much happened this weekend - DH worked Saturday, and I baked. A lot. DS1's b-ball team won their final game - woo hoo!

Sunday my dad's father and sister came over for Christmas. We had a nice long visit, and everyone got gifts (doesn't that automatically make for a nice visit?) I still feel some awkwardness because there was such a time gap for us. But it was still good to see them.

...and that's pretty much it...lame, huh?

Random tho't for the day...(Completely tongue-in-cheek, of course!)

How fair was it to give Jesus to Mary and Joseph as their first child? How well could He have prepared them for the 100% human children that came after Him? I mean, He was without sin, so no tantrums at 2, no ornery pranks at 10, no eye rolls at 14 - come on - kid #2 for the family must have been quite a shocker! Did they ask said second child "Why can't you be more like your brother Jesus?"

...tee hee...

One of my favorite Christmas songs...

Just wanted to share the lyrics with you...it's performed by Natalie Grant

One Child

The seed, it grows and somehow becomes a life
It moves, she knows that her baby has arrived
She's so scared, but she's so blessed
She lays down her fear for the hope at her breast
For she knows

Chorus
One million chains could never hold back this moment in time
One thousand dreams could never dream what this moment truly means
Heaven and earth, they cradle the infinite joy born on this night
For it only takes one child to forever change the world

He stands beside her, he'd share her pain if only he knew how
He whispers I love you as he gently strokes her brow
He's so scared, but he's so blessed
There's a thundering pride pounding deep in his chest
For he knows

Chorus

Christ is born, we are blessed
Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess
That we know

Chorus

This baby cries
And for the first time the world hears the voice of God weep
Mary sings a lullaby
As the hope of the nations gently falls asleep
She knows this is the one child
To forever change the world

I stink

Have you ever been around something that's dead and rotting? The stench is overwhelming! It's intense and like nothing else - you'll never mistake it.

DH and I are CSI fans (the original one, not the knockoffs) and there was one episode that really made an impression on me. Sarah and one of the guys is trying to determine the identity and cause of death for a body found in the desert (wait - don't they ALL start out like this...?) This particular body was in a bag of some sort, and had liquified, in essence. Long story short, she's trying to impress a guy, but is covered in the stench of this rotting body that she literally can't wash away. Something about the rancid body fat clinging to her hair, etc. Just a really nasty thought. The impression I was left with was that she was going to be smelling like this for a long time, regardless of how often she bathed.

Which brings me to the story of Lazarus in John 11. Jesus wants the stone in front of the tomb rolled away. Those there with Him protest as Lazarus has been in the tomb for four days, and to be honest, he stinks. But all Jesus knows is that He loves Lazarus and that God has a plan. He doesn't care about the decay, the smell, the dirt. He just knows that this is why He came. He is willing to face the stink of death for the one He loves.

No matter how much we bathe, put on expensive perfumes and powders, we, too, stink of death and decay and sin. But He can get past that. He can get through the stink, through the pretense, through the rebellion, through my hardened heart and stiff neck.

Just so that I could come out smelling like a rose.

Warning: Vent to Follow

DS1 has joined the chorus at school. I was thrilled until I was informed that there was no homework, and this was the primary reason for opting for chorus. Well, last night, the chorus was to perform, as well as a number of other musical groups from the school. And DS1's chorus was required to stay for all the performances. Okay, no problem. We got there on time, and headed to the cafetorium (how classy is that!) There is literally standing room only. Crazy! Students are lugging chairs from wherever they can be found - I watched them add at least five rows of chairs and there were still people standing. A woman standing next to me asked if this school had a gym we could go into, and I told her they had two gyms - moving sounded good to me! Then the chorus director announced that they were sorry there weren't enough seats, but to bear with them and they would make do. He also said that this was a problem they loved to have. (Yeah. Thanks.) He added that the sound system in the gym was terrible, so we would have to stay where we were. Then he said that although they wanted the 6th grade chorus to remain, they would be allowed to leave after their performance to make room. Everyone applauded!

The girls chorus performed first, and they were really good. Probably 50 young ladies singing in harmony - lovely! Then the boys chorus performed, and they were not so good, but you gotta give them credit. A dozen junior high boys singing along with a bongo. Takes guts, man! Their third piece was Love Potion Number 9, with three solos. The problem was, they couldn't be heard! And not just to soloists who were singing into mics (that mysteriously got turned off right before the solos) but the whole group!

So 6th grade chorus heads to the stage. The music teacher announces that this is the first year that chorus has been offered as an alternative to "regular" music and that more than 150 students opted for chorus. Wait a minute - you have to believe that on average, more than one family member will turn out for your kid's chorus performance, right? So, double that 150. Oh, wait, you forgot to factor in siblings and grandparents, so maybe another 100 or so people. Not to mention the families present for other choruses. One would think - wouldn't one? - that someone with a mathematical bent in the school would have suggested that someone set up more chairs! Sheesh! What a madhouse! But the songs they performed were charming, and more than made up for the inconvenience! Really cute and original! Just wish DH had made it in time to see it.

Sorry - venting finished - but as you can see, I'm still not feeling great...and this was just one more straw...grrr...

Have a good day, and I'll take drugs or something...

Blech...

Well, it's Monday again...

Weekend recap:

Friday - I think the evening went pretty well! The fam came over and chowed on wings and catfish. I think DH was absolutely in his element! All four sisters and a brother, as well as his mom and an adult niece and nephew were there. Kinda crazy and crowded, but that's what family does, right?

Saturday - Slept IN! Fetched Christmas trees (yes, more than one.) Then DS1 and I trudged into work to type his story for school - it ended up being 19 pages. Really cute story! We finished just in tiime to head to his basketball game, and then straight out to church for babysitting/cookie baking which led into the youth group's midnight service.

Sunday - Too sick to go to church. Fever, congestion, yuck. Stayed in and warm until it was time to decorate the main tree and discovered it was in an absolutely arid state - crispy, even. Went to another place to get another tree and made it home in time for DS1 to head out to see Narnia with the youth group. Slept...watched football...slept. Decorated tree, watched Christmas with the Kranks, and baked gingerbread cookies (okay, well, it wasn't from scratch, but, hey - I tried!)

Monday - made it to work, but feel pretty yucky! Hence the title...

Friday

Made it home yesterday - in spite of Mother Nature's best attempt. Got home and started in on housecleaning. DH has invited his family over tonight for games and snacks. Kiddos and I worked hard all evening - all of us hacking and coughing and sneezing and pretty much feeling yucky. But we got it done, for the most part. Sorry it wasn't completely done, Allen.

I am looking forward to tonight. It will be nice to have his family over. I'm looking at it as a good opportunity to serve them. Here's praying that He will shine through...

Have a good weekend everyone!

It's SNOWING!!!

Hooray - oh wait - I guess it would be better if I didn't have to slip and slide across town to pick up the kiddos...nice first day back to work for DH...

Please be praying - my car doesn't like snow! And unlike Beaner, I made sure my driver's ed classes were during the summer! Ack!

It's OVER

I'll not go into details here, but please - join us in praising God for His goodness and mercy!

Monday

(If you've read DH's blog, you know how {relieved} I am to be back at work!! Whew!)
Yeah, so, this woman calls me back to the exam room, where DH is {patiently waiting}, escorts me in and proceeds to speak an obscure Swahili dialect regarding my husband.

ME: "Wait - what?"

DR: "Blah-blah-blah-blah hospital blah-blah ambulance blah-blah-blah admit blah-blah."

DH: "You gotta be shi**in' me!"

And can I just note how long it actually TAKES to get to the hospital from Doc-in-a-box?! Holy oleo, Batman!

I guess the good news is (other than DH is okely-dokely of course!) that DS1 dedicated his game Saturday to his dad *sniff* (who was in the ER at game time) and played really well. Hmmm...correlation? I dunno.

And what the heck happened yesterday with worship?! Eeep! Personally, I blame, uh, well, I guess me for sharing the "Concerned Caller" clips from www.ourgreenroom.com with the rest of the PT. Sorry, guys! I felt very conspicuous up there, knowing there were some in the congregation making sure I was being a statue for Christ - not moving my butt around, back and forth, side to side. LOL!

Did we mess up in reverse?

The rumor mill is grinding out a whole slew of stuff this afternoon. Seems that the new guy may be interested in coming aboard. NOW what do I do? I hate that this will cause all kinds of stress and crap in the office and between MB, NB and FB! Do I stick it out? Do I step up my efforts to find somewhere new? Do I hang around and see how the new guy works out? It could be a good thing - NG could make MB be out of the office actually working - novel concept, I realize - but NG could end up being just as bad as MB - they've been friends for a looooong time. This inhales!

...just another day in paradise...

I think I've been in denial about today. MB (mean boss) is bringing in one of his "friends" to the office today. In the hopes of replacing NB (nice boss). And FB (friend boss) and I are kind of (read: VERY) uneasy about it. NB has some inkling I think, but I don't know the depth of his knowledge or the extent of his concern. Ugh. MB told FB that he'd want ther to show new guy some things today maybe. We're not sure what exactly he will want to see, or ethically, what she can show a stranger about the business dealings around here.

Crud - gotta go - guess who's here!

...please send happy thoughts and prayers our way...thanks!

Happy December!!

Yep, it's definitely December! Fine coating of snow on the ground, below freezing temps...ah...love it! And, since it's officially December, I can begin decorating for Christmas! Hooray!

I'm in a much better state today than I have been all week it seems. Sleep is a WONDERFUL thing!

Whoops - MB (mean boss) is here - gotta dash...!

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Yikes!

...and just when I thought things had settled down...

DH woke me at about 4am telling me he was going to the ER. WHAT?!?! He's fine, but evidently he has strained the ligaments attaching his ribs to his sternum and is in some pretty major pain. Lots of happy pills. But I can't check on him at the moment, because there is something wrong with our phone line - so no calls in or out. Ugh.

________________________________________

So, I had a rookie pick up my kiddos from school yesterday (if only to give Beaner a break and allow me to remain in her good graces - LOL) Everything went fine picking up DS2 - thanks to Mapquest (I told you she was a rookie - as well as new to the area!) The problems started when she went to get DS1. The school is on a one-way street - which was not a problem - but evidently the flow of traffic was such that she didn't see the car next to her and - well - hit it. Eek! Everyone was fine, but she was understandably upset. And DS1 was patiently waiting, unaware of the unfolding drama. I just felt so HORRIBLE! She assured me everything was fine, though. Big, BIG shout out to Bridget!! Thanks, girlfriend!!
_________________________________________________

The kiddos spent the night with a friend Saturday night. The main reason is for new video game competition, as opposed to any deep friendships, I suspect. DS1 was describing their evening to us and said that they got there around 6pm and by 8pm "we were bored sick out of our pants." ...um...

Monday

Note to self: Next year, make sure YOU get the Monday after Thanksgiving off, instead of friend-boss! Eek!

Thanksgiving was nice - went to BIL an SIL's house. Very thankful for family! LOTS of food and she sent home lots of leftovers with us. Didn't get to make Mamaw's Coconut Cake for T-giving, but will definitely try it for the church holiday banquet-ish thingy!

Friday I was a slug. No shower, didn't venture out of my comfy spot very often, remote firmly glued to palm. Awesome!

Saturday DH worked, so I actually DID some stuff (*gasp* - I know!) Lots of laundry, some cleaning, some shopping - but it was all stuff DH asked me to pick up - so no pressies.

Sunday I sang with the PT. Good times. We've got such a great group of people involved in the worship ministry. Just don't get us giggling...

And today - ugh! DH is in a class every day this week. We're going to be a "normal" couple where we both get home at the same time (approximately), look at each other, and wonder what we should do for dinner. Great. How do people DO this every day?!?

So there's my weekend in a shallow nutshell - I'd go into more detail, but it's almost time to go home, and I haven't gotten to all my work today...(bad girl!)

Letting Go

I heard something the other day on our local christian radio station that has stuck with me. The DJ was talking about an issue with which she was trying to deal, and she faithfully presented it to the Lord. She offered it to Him - praying with her hands out and palms up. There was no resolution, and hadn't been for awhile. She said she heard Him tell her to turn her hands over - and drop the problem into His care.

I know I've been guilty of this same action - offering it to Him, but keeping my hands ready to take back the issue if it's not taken care of to my specifications or timetable.

Lord, remind me that You are bigger than any problem I may be holding on to. Help me to turn my troubles over to You, to drop them into Your hands, because mine aren't big enough to carry them.

Monday

So our date Saturday was SO much fun! We dropped the kids off at the sitter's house and we were off! Our instructions for the evening were to not worry about the kiddos and to stay out late! And as our sitter was keeping the boys overnight, the world was our oyster. Well, we stopped and got food for Wrigley and then we were off! Well, we couldn't decide on a restaurant, but agreed on one and then we were off! Well, that one was way too full, so we agreed on another one and then we were off! But first, a stop - and one that made major DH points!! We went to Teddy-Set-Go (a Build-a-Bear Workshop-type place) and we picked out a new family member. Coltrane was 'born' Saturday at 6:15pm, with a special wish in his heart from DH to me. (MAJOR points! Especially when he had to kiss the guardian angel bear insert and make a wish right there in the middle of the store!) And then we were off! To the second restaurant - which was full, so we agreed on a third option and then we were off! To a restaurant that wasn't overcrowded with really good food. So after our yummy creole dinner, we decided on ice cream for dessert and we were off! And since there were no movies out that we couldn't live without seeing, we decided to rent a movie or two, but we had just gotten our ice cream, and ice cream just won't wait! So we decided to go home and see what movies were playing on TV (none) and decided to scour our movie collection. So, we were home by 9:30, eating ice cream and watching "Million Dollar Baby" by ourselves with no interruptions from the kidlets. It was AWESOME!! Fun, relaxing, romantic - everything a date should be!

Hooray, Thursday!

Good, GOOD mail day today!! Victorian Trading Company catalog, free book, samples from Dove, and...dadatada! My annual T-giving installment of Malley's chocolate covered toffee!!

Wednesday

It's evidently autumn (that's for you, Skip!) because evidently, I'm coming down with something. Ugh! Feeling sluggish, congested. Oh well.

Not much is going on around here - just maintaining. And sometimes that's all I can hope for.

Sorry 'bout the melancholy tone today! I'm not down or anything, just kinda emotional and tired...

...gray skies are gonna clear up - put on a happy face...

Gather 'round the table

We've been invited to DBil and DSil for T-giving this year. And I've been pressuring DH as to what dish we're taking to the feast. I'm uneasy that we (he) haven't decided yet. Today he decided to make the decision mine. Eep! I don't cook much, because I've been blessed with a wonderful DH who enjoys being in the kitchen, so I don't need to cook. And all my Sil's are known for a dish or two - know what I mean? One is known for her macaroni salad, one for her spaghetti, one for her cookies, one for her greens, etc. "You're bringing xyz, right? 'Cause it won't be abc without it!" "I look forward to your xyz every year!" *sigh*

I've tried to come up with new and enticing things in the past, only to be handily rejected in the nicest possible way. I guess all I'm known for is not cooking.

Any suggestions, Blogvillians?

Tuesday

Got a phone call last night letting us know that some friends had their second baby girl yesterday afternoon. Can't wait to see her!
__________________________________________

How many times do we tell God what we're going to do for Him? I mean, we make all these plans to work to further His kingdom - door knocking, street corner evangelizing, studying the Bible with people, serving the church, etc. - which are all good things, don't get me wrong! And we pray, just to keep in touch. I am so guilty of this! I want to do good things, things I think He wants me to do, but a lot of times, I just dive in, simply letting God know what I'm doing, instead of seeking His counsel.

But what about what He's already doing? How often do we, in our zeal, mistakenly get in the way of His work? I think our prayer should be "Show me" instead of "watch me."

...and it's over!

The craft auction, that is. And it seems to have been a great success. According to preliminary reports, we were able to make about as much as in years past, which was terrific and a HUGE relief! Next is the holiday season and then the women's retreat.

My aunt brought me the stuff my mother was sending to me Saturday. I was surprised at the stuff she kept, in particular, letters and cards I sent her when I was in college. Sheesh! I had no idea I was so shallow and insipid. And as I'm fairly certain that I will never have a library named after me that will clamor for my "papers" I'm pretty sure I can trash them. I also have a lot of pictures from my childhood and the baby clothes she kept for me. Can't decide exactly where I am in my feelings on this. I don't know.

In other news, DS1 had his first Parks & Rec basketball game Saturday - and they won! And he got to help them win! This is a huge deal, because B-ball isn't a sport we 'do' in our house. Football, and the Cubs, but no basketball. So, the idea that he scored two points and got a steal after only one practice - woohoo! Go number 5!!

I haven't done any stitching for about a week now. Too tired and too busy and in too much pain. The change of season has really done a number this year on my carpal tunnel. Ugh! And I can't find any of my braces to wear. I'd really like to get some stuff done, for goodness sake!

The looming terror that is...the CRAFT AUCTION

Okay, well maybe it's not that bad, but it is pretty frightening! Tomorrow is the big day, and between now and then, I literally do not have time to breathe. No. Really. DH is working OT today, I had teacher conferences this morning, haul the kiddoes to a sitter (unexpectedly), work a full day (and THAT's going just GREAT!! not.), head out to the church to decorate and set up, go home sometime and clean my house from top to bottom in anticipation of family arriving tomorrow while once again I am setting up/decorating at the building, only to head to DS1 basketball game tomorrow afternoon, and then, oh yeah, the craft auction itself. See? No breathing. At. All.

Satan is at it again. I love working on the auction. I love how it all comes together in the end. I love being a part of this ministry which helps support hurting women in our area. I love that my family is coming to visit and that my grandmother is going to be not only at the auction, but also in church with us Sunday. (hooray!) I love that DS1 finally has a chance to play in a sport he enjoys. I love that I have a place to live, and that my family is comfortable enough there to be truly "at home." I'm grateful that I have a job (although the flexibility I once had seems to be eroding quickly.) I'm happy that DH is willing to put in extra hours for the good of his family.

Maybe instead of looking for the bright side, I need to polish the dull side a little bit more?

Tuesday

Haha! I'll post BEFORE I start work today! I'll foil you yet, silly workplace!!

Okay, DH - here are the seven blog topics I've pieced together for you:

  • Would you make a good Survivor contestant? Why or why not?
  • What is your worst fault? Your greatest strength?
  • How do you want to be remembered?
  • Any regrets?
  • Share your testimony.
  • What is your heart's desire?
  • Of what accomplishment are you most proud?

There ya go - have at 'em!

I recently finished a very...um - interesting book, shall we say. It's called Lamb - a novel - The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. (With a title like that, could you blame me for picking it up?!) While the book as a whole is completely irreverent and definitely fiction, the premise is interesting. It covers those missing childhood and young adult years. Christ knows He's the Son of God but doesn't know what to do, or how to be the Son of God. Moore takes his characters on a search for the three magi for Christ to be "trained." If you can get past the language and the questionable situations, it really gives a new spin on Christ's human side. One scene really impressed me - it's toward the end of his ministry and He's been trying to tell his disciples what the kingdom of God is like and He's completely frustrated because they just aren't getting it. He and Biff take a break and Maggie (Mary Magdalene) runs up to them.

"You two are the ninnies here. You both rail on them about their intelligence, when that doesn't have anything to do with why they're here. Have either one of you heard them preach? I have. Peter can heal the sick now. I've seen it. I've seen James make the lame walk. Faith isn't an act of intelligence, it's an act of imagination. Every time you give them a new metaphor for the kingdom they see the metaphor, a mustard seed, a field, a garden, a vineyard, it's like pointing something out to a cat - the cat looks at your finger, not at what you're pointing at. They don't need to understand it, the only need to believe, and they do. They imagine the kingdom as they need it to be, they don't need to grasp it, it's there already, they can let it be. Imagination, not intellect." (Emphasis mine.)

Hmmm...

Thursday

Thursday?!? Already?!? Cripes!

I haven't had a chance to a) change DH's blog; b) compile a list of seven blog ideas for him; c) write the blog he asked me to write. I've failed blog-sitting. *sigh* I guess I still have a little bit of time...

On the happy news front - Tyler Stewart came through the surgery just fine! Much rejoicing! Still some things to watch out for, but we're very encouraged. Aaaannnndddd...today is his birthday! Happy, happy birthday, Tyler!!

I read John Alan Turner's blog today (and if you haven't - you really should!) www.johnalanturner.blogspot.com He talks about Elijah calling Elisha into ministry, and how intimidating it must have been. Asking someone to change their life so radically, to walk away from everything they know and love to continue in a completely different mode. And then John challenged me to not say "No" FOR anyone; to not deny someone the opportunity to decide their own answers, choose their own fate, open their hearts to God - just because I don't think they'll be open, or because I'm afraid of their reaction.

Guilty as charged.

Monday

Color me disappointed! That trade show this weekend was a JOKE! I went into it with such high hopes, only to find a glorified flea market with some really nice fur coats. All I ended up buying was some DVD's which I'm hoping aren't pirated somehow. Sheesh!

I guess I do have SOMETHING to look forward to - and I'll need your help, Blogville. DH has left me with the keys to the proverbial castle! I have COMPLETE CONTROL over his blog (www.fireguy.blogspot.com) this week and with the exception of the title - I can change whatever I want! I am enlisting you guys for topic ideas, because he's going to take 7 of my suggested topics as blog entries over the next month. Mwahahaha! When the cat's away...

Friday

Hmmm...interesting idea, Terri. Three things...desert island...in honor of your kind invitation how about 1) a freezer, 2) unlimited supply of ice cream 3) a spoon...LOL!

Thanks to the largesse of my boss, I get to go shopping tomorrow!!! For practically NOTHING! I'm SO excited! My friend boss and I are heading north to a barter/trade show, and nice boss split the trade dollars he's earned with all of us little worker bees in the office, so I can get some *upcoming C-word holiday that no one wants to think about yet* shopping done - unless, of course, DH has to work overtime...which would also be good...but...

DS1 seems to be doing much better in school! I'm not sure what the cause is, but I'm all for it!

Have a great weekend, blogbuddies!

Updates

Well, the latest in our little world and situation is that no news is good news. We haven't heard from anyone "official" in spite of state law, and that whole "Norman Rockwellian" phase seems to have passed. So counseling and praying continue. Thank you to all who have let us know you're praying for our family.

In my slightly expanded family: the Stewarts have headed to Memphis for Tyler's evaluation and treatment. They have set up a CarePages site to keep people updated.

Please keep praying for the Stewarts!!

Rumbling

Last night, the floor rumbled beneath my feet.

It was the murmur of men's voices. Planning. Discussing. Encouraging. Sharpening one another. There was intensity and laughter. Challenges and camaraderie.

It was a comforting feeling. Because I knew what these brothers were about. And I was so encouraged about their plans and their drive and their desire to go deeper with God and other brothers.

Their hearts are about becoming not just "men" but men of God with all that it entails. They want to wake up the church, wake up the brothers, wake up the community.

A revolution brewing in my own home? The world turning upside down? I always thought that the sound of turning a new page or a new leaf wouldn't be so deep.

Last night, the floor rumbled beneath my feet.

Lord, please be with Mark and Laura and Luke and Tyler. We ask for healing, for mercy. We know you are the great physician and can make this tumor go away. Be with Mark and Laura. Help them be strong for the boys. Keep their eyes trained on You. Be with Tyler and bless him, Lord. Restore his health. We pray this in faith through Jesus.

Wednesday

Every time I'd check on my blog yesterday, I kept seeing the sentence about my grandfather coming to visit Friday. And the more I was reminded of his visit, the more irritated I became. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed seeing him and my aunt very much. This is my father's side of the family, and, well, there was not a lot of contact for a very long time. So I'll take just about anything I can get.

But during his visit, he kept bringing up my mother. Repeatedly. And bad-mouthing her. Now, I can understand some bad feelings lingering for awhile - but the divorce was final THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO! Get over it! For the love!

Why can't people just let go? What is it in our human nature that wants to hold on to things - and I've found most often bad or painful things - and worry them like a bad tooth? If God can forget my sins, why can't I? Why can't anyone else? Why can't I forgive you your sins? Why can't you forgive me mine? Why do we hold on to things we know are bad for us? Or things about which we can do nothing? Arrgh!

Made it to Tuesday...

Sheesh! You know, yesterday is why Monday has such a bad rep! People and animals getting hurt; children being yelled at; moms being inexplicably grumpy - bad things all the way around...

So. Tuesday MUST be better, right?

Monday

Weekend recap...

Friday evening, my aunt and grandfather came over for a visit (driving his new fancy-schmancy car - which made HUGE points with the kiddos!) My aunt has asked me to do some cross stitching for her. I think I may be in over my head. *lapsing into crossstitchspeak* She wants Just Nan's Celeste angel, but done in Joy's colors (which means a color conversion - eep!) with another figure next to the angel (which she gave me) and, oh yeah, she wants this done TWENTY TIMES!!! *deep breath in...deep breath out...* I guess I do have a bit of time, but still...for the love!

Okay, I'm back. Saturday, DH worked OT (hooray!) so to celebrate, I went out and got my hair cut. Doesn't sound like such a big deal, but I haven't had my hair cut in nearly three years - and it's SHORT. Above my shoulders. But I like it - just more maintenance and styling time in the morning...

DS2 went to a sleepover Saturday, while DS1 and I fell asleep to the TV. (I know - you all want to be me...LOL!)

Sunday was church. Sunday afternoon was football. And a voice lesson - she gave me quite a workout, too! And this new Vaccai song - sheesh! Back home to DH's homemade beef stew. And stitching - I have half of the pattern done for DH's saxophone player. Upward and onward...

Hopefully, tomorrow I won't be quite so pressed for time and topic and may actually eke out something deep and thoughtful or maybe even meaningful...
